Organic Makeup
The term Organic makeup is used to market and promote cosmetics because many people are becoming averse to using anything which is not derived from nature on their skin. When one hears or sees the word 'organic' we are under the impression that the materials and ingredients used will not be manmade or contain any chemicals. Within the cosmetics industry there are many companies which use the term 'organic' which can be misleading as their products are not truly 'organic' as they do contain ingredients which are manmade or derived from chemicals.
There are no stringent regulations regarding the use of the term organic as there is with foods and many skin care products and makeups have the word 'organic' as part of their brand name which can be very misleading. There are campaigns which are fighting to prevent companies misleading the public and to be sure that your purchase is truly 'organic' you will need to do some very careful label reading.
However, despite of the fact that these poor practices are carried out by some, there are many companies who have built their reputation solely on using truly organic materials and these companies provide lists of ingredient and components of their organic makeup to enable you to make an informed choice.
In the past people have applied countless chemicals and components to their skin without realising just how much damage they can potentially or actually do to themselves. This includes applying lead paint and even arsenic in attempts to give a pale complexion.
One of the latest makeup phenomenons is the use of mineral makeup. The minerals used include mica, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide which are pulverized into fine powders, these mineral makeups claim to be good for the skin and many companies also claim that their mineral makeups can reverse the signs of ageing or prevent signs of ageing being apparent. Mineral makeup contains sun filters and no talc, additives, preservatives or perfumes. Due to the fine powder the foundation makeup does not clog or block pores and due to its fine density does not lie in the skin folds of wrinkles and lines. Many mineral makeup companies also use natural ingredients which include beeswax, honey and royal jelly, lavender, geranium, sandalwood and green tea extracts.
Despite this there are many who disagree with these Organic Makeup claims, saying that the colors are unnatural and that the makeup dries the skin which can make you look older not younger!
